..it’s been a bit over 一年 since I moved to nyc to be an artist/illustrator.
I made the picture in this post at the end September 2019. I still remember sitting in Battery Park, during a drawing meet-up, making one of the very first @pandacubstories comics.
So much has happened since then!
I started learning digital art, connected with fellow webcomics ( @thirdculturechinese @jellybyisabel@catandcatcomics @pinkandpearlpig@suzumelon @drawingwithdung@moonsia_art @akiigato@adhdemoncomic@thechopsticknoodle …), and discovered the #chinesestudygramcommunity (@han_characters@learnchineseputonghua@elementarychinese @studywithdanai@loopylinguist @chinesewithmira@complexsyrup @_akadanie@mymandarinstudygram..)
I’m so, SO grateful for this community (y’all!!!) forming around my comics. I LOVE being able to share my learner’s journey with you, and beyond thrilled that some of you find it useful on your own path towards learning Mandarin Chinese!

I’m all at once excited about the future, but also a bit (very..) exhausted. Same ol'story: I took up too many projects at once (including that 中秋節 podcast that never ended up materializing 😑) and burnt myself out. I’m also working through some things in my personal life.
So...I’m taking a little break.
I’ll still be posting (you might notice me posting more than usual, actually). Details are in the 2nd panel, but long story short:
1️⃣I’m scaling back on the long-form comics to focus on 2 big projects (Kickstarter?! Book proposal?!!)
2️⃣In the meantime, I’ll be making mini vocab posts (like the “Potions” right before this post)…and purrhaps redrawing some old comics:).
With that said, I’ve rambled long enough. Happy 星期五 to all, and enjoy the weekend! I’ll be back w/ Panda’s first “mini post” on Monday:)
